The Tennessee House and Senate adjourned the 106th session of the General Assembly early Thursday morning.
At about 1:06 a.m. the House passed its “sine die” resolution. Shortly thereafter the Senate followed suit.
Earlier in the evening both chambers had convened conference committees to try and hash out differences over the respective bills they’d passed challenging the health care reform legislation signed by President Obama in March.
The conference committee included chief sponsors of the competing measures, Rep. Susan Lynn and Sen. Mae Beavers, both Republicans from Mt. Juliet and rivals for the District 17 state Senate seat, now occupied by Beavers.
A majority of House members, 44-39, voted in favor of the conference committee compromise, however a majority of the full chamber, 50 votes, was required to pass it. A number of House members had either left for the night or were absent the chamber floor when the vote was taken.
