Press Release from the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, May 14, 2010:

O’Toole provides needed counterpoint in mass transit debate.

NASHVILLE – Noted transportation expert, Cato Institute Senior Fellow Randal O’Toole, will speak next week to business leaders about the future of mass transit in America, as well as on its potential role in the rebuilding of Nashville.

O’Toole is author of the book Gridlock:Why We’re Stuck in Traffic and What to Do About It, a seminal work in the movement toward making public transit cost efficient and technologically sound.

O’Toole’s philosophy toward public transportation is based on three core principles:

  • Those who use public transportation facilities should pay for them.
  • Negative effects should be dealt with in a cost efficient manner.
  • New technologies that increase mobility at a low cost must be embraced.

O’Toole is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute and is a prolific author on urban growth, public land use, and transportation. He is a guest of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

The event is open to the press. For more information call Suzanne Michel at (615) 383-6431.
